Located in Purcellville, Catoctin Creek Distilling Company was founded by Becky and Scott Harris in 2009 as the first legal distillery in Loudoun County since before Prohibition. "Catoctin" is a regional name. Pronounced Ka-TOCK-tin, the name derives from the Indian tribal name "Kittocton" which, legend has it, meant "place of many deer". Catoctin Creek believes in high quality food and spirits. Organic means higher quality: grain and fruit, sourced locally whenever possible, free of pesticides and chemical additives. The results speak for themselves.
Distilled in small 100 gallon batches, Catoctin Creek "Roundstone" Cask Proof Brandy Cask Finished Rye Whiskey is crafted from 100% rye and aged for one year in 30 gallon new charred Minnesota white oak barrels and then finished in 60 gallon former Bordeaux oak barrel that was used to age their 1757 brandy, which is Virginia's first commercial Brandy since the establishment of the Commonwealth. The result is a full flavored spirit with a bold and spicy nose and palate, but soon give way to complex notes of clove, cinnamon, walnut, pine nuts and dark chocolate. Notes of fresh grain and citrus merges with an undercurrent of dried plum and spice on the finish.
