Sauvignon Blanc was the first wine released by the Highberry winery. Traditionally the slopes of the Schapenberg is a great fit for the Sauvignon Blanc varietal. The grapes are harvested from a highly potential South-East facing block with Tukulu soils: a soil type derived from weathered granite which is found on mountain slopes, with odd physical and water retention properties. The resulting wine displays concentrated aromas of grapefruit, pineapple, tangerine and grass on the nose, with surprisingly layered flavors of citrus, tropical fruit, mineral and bell pepper on the palate, leading to a clean, bright finish.
"This is crisp, fresh, a citrus, grassy expression rather than gooseberry, so if we are going to stereotype thin Loire not Marlborough. Fruity yet lean and nicely defined, from biodynamic grapes grown in Helderberg, near Stellenbosch." - Decanter
