95 Points - Wine Advocate
Domini Castellare di Castellina I Sodi di san Niccolo is crafted from 85% Sangioveto (Sangiovese) and 15% Malvasia Nera from 25 to 30 year old vines. The wine is aged for 15 to 30 months in 225 liter barrique with different type of woods and bottle refined for 12 months. The result is a bold, full-bodied wine with firm yet fine-grained tannins and mouth watering acidity, offering aromas of ripe cherries, dark berries, and currants which are complemented by notes of vanilla, leather, spice and cedar. Pairs well with roasted suckling pig, braised veal, demi-glaces, and Boeuf Bourguignon.
"As always, this celebrated wine shows excellent results. The 2012 I Sodi di S. Niccolò (85% Sangioveto and 15% Malvasia Nera) is a young wine that needs time to flesh out. It shows bright berry flavors and fresh acidity that will benefit from more time to relax and integrate. The wine is beautifully stitched together and balanced with soft contours, and has a long, lively mouthfeel. It offers wild berry and red cherry with spice, crushed stone, pressed blue flower and scorched earth." - Wine Advocate
