Crafted from 100% South African Yellow Maize (corn), James Sedgwick Distillery's "Bain's Cape Mountain" Single Grain Whisky is the first of its kind in South Africa. The whisky is first matured in specially selected first-fill bourbon casks for three years, its then transferred to another set of first-fill bourbon casks for an additional 18 to 30 months of aging. The result is a golden amber colored spirit with a mildly floral nose accentuated by aromas of toffee, vanilla and clove. The palate is soft and mellow with additional notes of dry cherry, allspice and oak, offering a warm and extended mouthfeel with an exceptionally smooth finish.
"This unusual whiskey was built like a Bourbon—made with 100% corn and aged in ex-Bourbon casks for an average of five years—but sips like a mellow Canadian whiskey. It's supersoft, with lots of vanilla and sweet maple, plus a gentle, drying finish of allspice and clove. A surprising, rounded black cherry note suggests Manhattans in this whiskey's future." - Wine Enthusiast
