Back in 2011, the husband and wife team Steve and Jill Matthiasson leased the Linda Vista Vineyard, which is right behind their house. The West Oak Knoll area where their house is located is one of the classic Chardonnay spots in Napa, going back to the 60s, The cool winds and clay soils here bring acidity and freshness, while the Napa sun gives flesh and ripeness. They farm the vineyard themselves, organically, where crafting “balance” means walking such a fine line between over and under ripe. Steve Matthiasson is The San Francisco Chronicle's "Winemaker of The Year" for 2013. Eric Asimov of The New York Times has said abut Matthiasson “Steve and Jill Klein Matthiasson are farmers, essentially — he is a leading vineyard consultant — and their wines bear an agricultural stamp, as fresh, lively and alive as the best produce from a farmers’ market.”
Golden yellow in color, Matthiasson Linda Vista Vineyard Chardonnay offers pronounced lemon citrus core with green and yellow apples, peaches, melon, and honey on the nose. The full-bodied palate is round and elegant with high acidity balanced by pleasant fleshiness of tropical fruit notes. The finish is long and well balanced with a hint of minerality. Pairs well with shellfish, cream sauces, chicken, fish, and vegetable dishes as well as soft cheeses.
