The Karydas family vineyard is located in the center of the appellation in Macedonia about 2.5 km outside of Naoussa in the Ano Gastra area at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level. The vineyard is on the slopes of "Gastra" with good drainage and a sandy clay soil containing calcium, which contributes to the quality of the raw material and the wines produced. This is a traditional area for producing red wine, where cultivation of the Xinomavro is dominant. This grape variety is often compared to Nebbiolo for its aromatic similarities.
Crafted from 100% Xinomavro following an old school, traditional method without any new wood and very little intervention, Domaine Karydas Naoussa opens with complex floral aromas with underlying notes of herb, earth and cherry fruit on the nose, that carries over to the full-bodied palate with silky tannins and firm acidity. Subtle notes of minerality lingers through the long, fleshy finish. This is an excellent accompaniment to hearty stews and braised meat.
