Chateau d’Epire is one of the oldest and most celebrated domaines in Savennieres. Located just southwest of Angers, on the north bank of the Loire River, vines have been cultivated here since the time of the Romans. The Savennieres from Epire is regarded as Grand Cru. The domaine works primarily three parcels: La Croix Picot, Le Parc, and Le Hu-Boyau. Their winery is a former Romanesque chapel, from the 12th century. This truly a blessed wine!
Chateau d'Epire "Clos de la Cerisaie" Anjou Rouge is created from 100% Cabernet Franc from 40 year old vines. The grapes are hand harvested and pressed gently by pneumatic press. Juice rests for 24 hours before being racked into stainless steel cuves or barrel for fermentation to begin. The result is a fresh and expressive wine with youthful fresh aromas of ripe berry and green peppercorn, while the soft, silky and fruit-driven palate offers roasted pepper, black fruit, bitter orange and tobacco leaf. Mouth watering acidity and structured tannins merge with subtle notes of spice on the finish.
