Located in Madison, Wisconsin, Old Sugar Distillery was established in 2010 by owner and distiller Nathan Greenawalt. Cane & Abe Freshwater Rum is named for Old Abe, the legendary bald eagle that was the mascot for Wisconsin's 8th Infantry during the Civil War. Distilled from domestically-grown cane sugar from Hawaii and Louisiana, Cane & Abe has been aged in small charred oak barrels for 4 - 12 months to achieve a smooth, robust flavor. Heavier and earthier than most rums, both the nose and palate offer bold notes of brown sugar, maple syrup, toffee, vanilla and oak, which add depth and character to a number of cocktails.
