Although the Malbec grape originated in Southern France, its incredible rise in popularity is mostly due to Argentinian wine producers, who have adopted Malbec as their national grape. While the Cahors region in France is still producing distinctive, high quality Malbecs, some of the best Malbec wines hail from Argentina. Argentinian Malbec wines are fruit-forward and spicy with bold aromas and flavors of blackberry, raspberry and dark chocolate, accented by rich earthy notes. These wines pair incredibly well with a variety of entrees, especially beef, duck, lamb and hearty pasta dishes.
