We've hosted a number of rye tastings here at our backyard tiki bar and Templeton wins hands down every time. The vanilla and maple notes over a smooth finish = perfection. I don't know if the Al Capone lore is true or not - but it makes for good drinking conversation. We prefer Templeton to Ri, Old Potrero, Whistlepig,and that nasty jet fuel organic stuff with the lion on it - yuck. Templeton makes perfect manhattans, rye whiskey sours and New York sours. Don't care for it as much as bourbon in sweeter drinks. Of course, it's delicious up neat.
