Baron de Lustrac Cepage Bacco Armagnac Vintage 1980 Castarede Selection Armagnac Castarede 10 Year Old VSOP Armagnac

(90-95) Points - Wine Enthusiast

This limited edition bottling by Baron de Lustrac is composed of 100% Bacco, one of Armagnac's most distinctive grapes. Its warm, toasty aromas of honey, butterscotch and apple lead to a sweet, concentrated palate with rich notes of caramel, apricot and spice.

Aged for 3 years, Castarede Selection offers a light, fruit-forward nose and a smooth, rich palate with generous flavors of dried fruit, roasted nuts and warm spice. This Armagnac is not only a fine digestif, but is also an ideal cocktail ingredient.

While traditional VSOP Armagnac is required to be at least 5 years old, Castarede VSOP is a blend of Armagnacs that have been matured for at least 10 years. Light, mellow notes of walnut, spice, cocoa and fruit on the nose carry through to the palate and linger through the warming finish.

Castarede Reserve de la Famille 20 Year Old Armagnac Castarede Armagnac Vintage 1964 Castarede Armagnac Vintage 1974

Reserve de la Famille boasts full, harmonious aromas of ripe fruit, leather and spice with hints of toasty oak. The palate is smooth and slightly sweet with complex layers of toffee, nutmeg, vanilla and honey that follow through to the creamy, long lasting finish.

Founded in 1832 under Napoleon III, Castarede is the oldest Armagnac trading house in existence. Their vineyards are situated in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region and are planted with Folle Blache, Colombard and Saint-Emillion varietals, which are carefully monitored to ensure quality. After the distillation process, the Armagnacs are aged in black oak barrels for a number of years in the family's 100 year old cellars. One is situated on the banks of the Baise river at Pont de Bordes, which is an exceptional location for aging Armagnac due to the temperature-regulating effect of the river. The other is surrounded by their vineyards in Bas-Armagnac.
