Founded in 2010, the WhistlePig Farm Distillery operates under the watchful eyes of Master Distiller Dave Pickerell, who formerly spent 14 years as the Master Distiller at Maker's Mark, and its proprietor Raj Peter Bhakta, who plans to grow organic rye on the farm for use in future batches. The Boss Hog is the debut of a new series of WhistlePig Whiskey which will be released each year, representing the finest and most unique rye in WhistlePig's barrel barns. The current release of Boss Hog Whiskey is pure barrel strength, 100% single grain, straight rye whiskey, comprised of only 50 of their oldest and most unique barrels. Nearly 14 years old, it has undergone an extensive and unique multibarrel aging process. Bottled at full barrel-strengh, the Boss Hog represents their purest, most powerful, and most primordial expression of the finest rye. Due to angelís share, the final proof will vary depending on the individual barrel. However, actual proof will be handwritten on each bottle.
On the nose, The Boss Hog displays bold, complex aromas of orange peel, ginger, nutmeg, clove and other baking spices which are complemented by notes of charred oak, caramel, and a hint of gingerbread. Full-bodied and rich on the palate, sweet, warming notes of caramel and vanilla are followed by rye-spice and mint flavors, which blend seamlessly into butterscotch and dark chocolate on the long, crisp finish.
