Crafted from 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot grown in their organic estate vineyard, Volker Eisele Family Estate Cabernet Sauvignon is aged for 24 months in 50% new French oak barrels from Treuil cooperage. The result is a deep ruby colored youthful red wine offering layers of candied cherry, cassis, pipe smoke, and rich leather with subtle underlying notes of wet stone minerality on the nose. The full-bodied palate offers additional notes of dark cherry core, blueberry, spicy plum, and Chinese 5-spice powder woven together in a complex matrix with supple and mouth-filling tannins. Hints of brown sugar and toasted oak lingers through the long finish.
"From an organically farmed estate vineyard in Chiles Valley operated by the same family for more than 40 years, this 87% Cabernet Sauvignon-13% Merlot has soul and structure, as well a stony minerality that compels. Menthol and tobacco weave between thick layers of dark cherry and plum, complemented on the palate by exotic cardamom and clove. This is one worth cellaring through 2022 or giving an hour or two to open." - Wine Enthusiast
"The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate exhibits an attractive deep ruby/purple color as well as sweet notes of crème de cassis, a creamy, medium to full-bodied texture, and good elegance, purity and depth. This attractive, delicious effort tips the scales at 14.5% alcohol. Drink it over the next decade." - Wine Advocate
