Vina Olabarri was established in 1958 in Haro by Mr. Pablo Olabarri Bikandi. A great wine lover, in 1985 he jumped at the opportunity to acquire an old, derelict 19th century winery at Calle Las Bodegas. He rebuilt the winery with the modern equipment needed to produce high quality Rioja wines, then built a new winery in Haro, with a capacity for 4,000 casks and large hallway that could store 800,000 maturing bottles of wine.
Composed mostly of Tempranillo, Vina Olabarri Gran Riserva is a bold, concentrated red which has been matured for twenty-four months in American and French oak, then aged for an additional thirty-six months after bottling. Complex aromas of cherry, raspberry and plum lead to a medium-bodied, fruit-forward palate with intense notes of dark fruit, tobacco, leather and earth. Small quantities of Mazuelo and Graciano add structure and balance.
