Located in the Vallagrina, an area carved out by the Adige river, Tenuta San Leonardo enjoys a temperate climate that benefits from the Ora del Garda wind. They have been producing wine for centuries. However, Under the ownership of the Guerrieri Gonzaga family since the mid-18th century, this estate has often been the setting of historical events, be it the marriage of Longbard kings or the negotiation of the WWI armistice with Austria. Today, San Leonardo has approximately 50 acres of vineyards planted with international varietals that thrive in the varied micro climates of the estate. Though the majority of the vineyards are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon; Carmenere, Cabernet Franc and Merlot are also abundant.
Created from 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 50% Merlot, 80% of Vigneti Delle Dolomiti "Terre" di San Leonardo is aged in large, Slovenian oak barrels for 18 months and 20% in French barriques for at least six months. The final blend is bottle refined for a minimum of six months. The result is a brilliant ruby red colored wine offering notes of rich red fruit and ripe plum with a grassy undertone.The palate is dry, balanced, and flat-out delicious. Enjoy this rich wine with rice and pasta dishes with tomato, white meats, grilled meats and soft cheeses.
