Description

The Glenlivet 18 Year is an old gold color, with dark apricot reflections. On the nose, it is elegant, complex and multi-layered with notes of sweet oak, beeswax, freesia, toffee, butterscotch, mint, chocolate, raspberries, powdered ginger, sawdust, and a touch of damp moss. On the palate, it is smooth and velvety with a firm underlying structure. Gentle maltiness is highlighted by a hint of passion fruit, which is immediately followed by a tantalizing burst of spices including ginger and white pepper. This ends in a dry finish with notes of oak and bitter oranges, with the faintest bit of smoke.

With the addition of a splash of water, this single malt reveals even more complexity. The nose develops notes of creme brulee, warm apple pie, peppermint, and further floral notes. The palate becomes sweeter, with hints of honey and less of an oaky edge. The spiciness is pleasantly enhanced, with a more pronounced ginger element.
