Established in 1842, the Kinoshita Brewery has been producing Tamagawa sake in the Kyoto Prefecture for five generations. However, when the toji (master brewer) passed away in 2008, the company made the bold decision to hire UK-born Philip Harper - the first and only non-Japanese toji in Japan. He proved his expertise to the sake community by producing both delectably earthy wild-yeast brews and fragrant prize-winning daiginjo in his very first season at the brewery.

Tamagawa "Heart of Oak" is a crisp, full-flavored junmai with delicate, balanced top notes of toasted almond, ripe berry and light smoke, backed by rich, savory notes of earth, mushroom and mineral. This distinctive umami flavor complements a wide range of dishes especially tempura and other fried foods, especially when served slightly warm.

Due to the delicate nature of this product, we highly recommend upgrading to overnight shipping if you live outside of our immediate delivery area (New York City, Long Island, Southeastern NY, CT, DE, MD, Washington DC, RI and Eastern PA); ideally, sake should be outside of refrigeration for as short a time as possible.
