Located in the heart of the Tuscan Maremma, Rocca di Frassinello was created in 2001 as a joint-venture between Castellare and Domaines Barons de Rothschild-Lafite - the first partnership of its kind. The project couples Castellare's experience in the growing and vinification of Sangioveto with Lafite's experience in classic French varietals.
Composed of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Le Sughere di Frassinello is bursting with complex notes of black cherry, raspberry, violets, dried herbs, tobacco and spice. Balanced acidity and firm, yet well-integrated tannins merge with hints of game and graphite on the dark fruit finish.
“This is a delicious value wine that has shown great strides forward in quality over the past two vintages. The 2013 Maremma Toscana Le Sughere di Frassinello is a hot seller and with 95,000 bottles produced, it should not be difficult to locate. The blend consists of Sangioveto, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The oak is evident but it is also folded nicely within the thickness of the wine. Rich flavors of dark fruit, spice, licorice and grilled herb peel off in thick layers. This wine is really beginning to shine.” - Wine Advocate
"Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice, lavender and dark spices meld together in the 2013 Le Sughere di Frassinello. Pliant, silky and expressive, the 2013 will drink well for at least a handful of years. The French oak is a bit noticeable at this point, but that is a pretty small critique at this level." - Vinous Media
