91 Points - Wine Advocate
With over three centuries of tradition, the Douro is one of the great wine production regions of the world. The cornerstone of the Douro region has long been the Quinta, a small, privately owned and operated estate. Until recently the Quintas relied on larger shippers to export their wines to the rest of the world. Quinta do Crasto is one of the first Quintas to create and export their own wines. Owned and run by the Roquette family, Crasto has established an excellent reputation for their high quality Port.
This vintage port is created by hand-harvesting grapes from sixty year old vines, fermenting them with natural yeast, and then aging the wine for two years in Portuguese oak casks. It is then bottled without any fining or filtration, resulting in a rich, velvety, dark-colored wine. Elegant and intense, this young vintage port boasts bold, complex notes of wild berry, fig, and plum that are complemented by medium sweetness, soft tannins, and excellent balance. It can be enjoyed now, or cellared up to 10 years.
