Produttori del Barbaresco was founded in 1958 by the priest of the village of Barbaresco who had the foresight to recognize that the only way small properties could survive was by joining their efforts. So he gathered together nineteen small growers and founded the Produttori del Barbaresco. From its humble beginnings making the first three vintages in the church basement, Produttori del Barbaresco has grown to a 52 member co-operative with 250 acres of Nebbiolo vineyards in the Barbaresco appellation and an annual production of over 500,000 bottles. Each member is in full control of their land, growing Nebbiolo grapes with the skill and dedication they have honed over generations.

Produttori del Barbaresco Pora Barbaresco Ovello Riserva is created from 100% Nebbiolo from the single vineyard Ovello located on the far north end of the ridge. The fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks at 85°F with maceration on the skins for 28 days. The wine is aged for 36 months in large oak casks and bottle refined for eight months before release. The result is a rich ruby red colored wine with robust aromas of ripe, red fruit with licorice and floral undertones. The palate is full-bodied with intense notes of strawberry, red cherries and tobacco followed by subtle herbaceous and mineral notes. The long finish is supported by firm, structured tannins. Pairs well with red meats, venison, risotto and cheese.

"The 2009 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a wine of straightforward harmony and genuine richness. The bouquet offers dark fruit, licorice, spice and tobacco. The Ovello cru shows an impressive level of overall opulence. In fact, both the Ovello and the Pajč vineyards have cooler conditions that help them excel in warm vintages like 2009. The tannins are firm and delineated. At the back, the wine offers a lasting sense of structure and character. It is beautiful now and promises an exciting evolution ahead." - Wine Advocate

“Lots of dark fruits to this with wet leaves and berries on the nose. A full body and super structure here plus firm tannins and a long, licorice and berry character. Better in 2016 but wonderful now.” - James Suckling

“The 2009 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is one of the more detailed, vibrant wines in this range. Sweet dark red cherries, mint, pine, graphite and crushed flowers all take shape in the glass. The typical high-toned Ovello bouquet, slightly firm tannins and energy are all there, making this one of the more site-specific of the 2009 Riservas. In 2009, the Ovello is a bit more accessible than it usually is, even if I don’t quite find the visceral thrill of the very best years.“ - Vinous Media

“A taut, steely backbone focuses this red, whose floral , strawberry and mineral flavors converge on the stiff , tannic finish. Elegant, with a huge structure lending muscle. Best from 2017 through 2029.” - Wine Spectator
