Duncan Taylor's "Rarest of the Rare" series preserves whiskies from now-closed distilleries, offering some of the final casks from excellent producers. Whisky from these distilleries have been matured and bottled in accordance with Duncan Taylor's standard of excellence, as single casks at cask strength with no chillfiltration or coloring. The Banff Distillery was first established in 1824, but severe fire damage required the distillery to rebuild in a different location in 1863. The distillery was again rebuilt following a fire in 1877 and continued to operate smoothly until it was bombed by Nazi aircraft in 1941. Although Banff started repairs later on that year, they were postponed because the British Royal Air Force occupied the territory until the end of World War II. The distillery eventually began production once again, but only operated until 1983 when it was officially closed.

Distilled in 1975 and bottled in 2011, Duncan Taylor "Rarest of the Rare" Banff is bold, complex and perfectly balanced. The nose opens with bright aromas of citrus and tropical fruit, which merge with elegant floral notes and hints of smoke and spice. The rich, textured palate offers lively notes of orange, lemon and green apple backed by earthy notes of grain, ginger root, dried herbs and lavender. Pronounced notes of vanilla and oak appear on the long, dry finish.
