The Bruichladdich Distillery was first opened in 1881 by the Harvey Brothers, who were determined to create the purest spirit possible. To do so, they installed the signature tall, narrow-necked stills which are still used today to produce the Bruichladdich line. Although the company experienced numerous owners and was closed on several occasions, the aging whisky remained in storage, and in 2001 the company was once again privately owned and the distillery began to thrive once again.
Octomore, known as the most peated whisky in the world, has taken it even further with their fifth release. Bottled at cask strength and boasting an extraordinary 169 phenolic parts per million, Octomore Edition 05.1 offers the intense aroma of a smoldering peat fire, accented by complex notes of dried fruit, heather, barley, primrose and vanilla. The rich, full-bodied palate opens with layered notes of juniper oil, peat smoked barley, salted biscuits, light iodine and crushed cinnamon which lead to secondary flavors of pear, pineapple and citrus fruit. Hints of roasted nuts, ginger, clover honey and sea salt emerge on the lasting finish.
Octomore is bottled without the use of coloring or chill-filtering. As a result, due to natural oils and flavor compounds, this whisky will cloud when cold or diluted with chilled water.
