The Balvenie Distillery was established in 1893 and to this day has remained dedicated to preserving the tradition, care and craftsmanship of malt whiskey production. It is the only single malt Scotch whiskey distillery that still grows and malts its own barley, has the only traditional working floor maltings in the Scottish Highlands, and has coopers to tend all the casks and a coppersmith to tend the stills.
Created exclusively for the United States, The Balvenie Tun 1401, Batch# 9 is the result of skillful marriage between eleven traditional whisky casks and three sherry butts, hand picked by Malt Master David Stewart from Balvenie Distillery's Warehouse #24. This limited release scotch was left to rest for several months in Tun 1401 – one of the distillery’s unique marrying vessels, producing a bold, complex spirit with a prominent note of peat smoke which gradually softens to reveal notes of dark fruits, marmalade and dark chocolate. The finish is long, spicy with hints of delicate honey notes.
