The Old Rip Van Winkle Distillery has a four generation history that started in the late 1800s with Julian P. "Pappy" Van Winkle. He passed his unique recipe down through the family and today the Van Winkle Bourbons are a limited, but highly sought-after item. They are created using Pappy's traditional recipe of corn, wheat and barley, rather than the more typical corn, rye and barley. This "wheated" recipe gives the bourbon a much softer, smoother taste and allows the whiskey to age more gracefully.
Pappy Van Winkle's 15 Year displays intense aromas of cedar, leather, dark chocolate, coffee, and tobacco entwined with soft notes of exotic fruit and spice. A balanced, velvety palate exhibits rich flavors of licorice, bitter chocolate, and raisin that culminate in a long, spicy finish.
