Niepoort was established in 1842 by Franciscus Marius van der Niepoort and has been passed down successfully through five generations of the family. Niepoort Late Bottled Vintage Port is created from a blend of varietals hand harvested from selected parcels of vineyards in the Cima Corgo region of the Douro valley. The grapes are foot trodden in traditional lagares and after fermentation, the wine is matured for four to six years in large wooden casks at the Niepoort lodge in Gaia. The result is a dry, fruit-driven wine with a rich, velvety texture and firm structure. Intense notes of plum, blackberry and blueberry appear on both the nose and palate, while hints of chocolate mousse and spice linger through the bright finish.
