Description

This rum was pot-distilled in 1992, uniquely aged in a combination of bourbon and port casks, and then finished in vintage port casks. It was then bottled at the Bruichladdich distillery in Scotland in 2005 in a limited release of just 1296 bottles.

This aging process creates a fascinating spirit that joins dry characteristics of Scotch Whisky with the sweetness of Jamaican rum. The port influence is immediately apparent on the palate, with ripe berry notes joining flavors of vanilla, caramel, brown sugar, beeswax, star anise, and a bourbon-cask derived malty note. The finish has a subtle briny quality that adds additional interest. This is undoubtedly a curious spirit, but one worth exploring.
