When Pierre Voisin created his cognac house with Olivier Blanc in 1972, he named it after his grandfather, Leopold Gourmel. Both founders were fond of his closeness to nature when tending his vineyards, and such respect for the environment perfectly matched their vision of a natural cognac. The wines used to create Leopold Gourmel cognacs come from the first growth Fins Bois, where one finds the oldest subsoils of the region and where the roots of the vines have grown as deep as twenty to thirty meters. Each block in a vineyard has a different age, climate, subsoil and level of exposure to the elements. Each block is therefore treated separately, from the harvest to the wine production, and ultimately to the distillation, to better translate the natural expression of the fruit. Each Leopold Gourmel cognac is created from wine of the same year. To preserve the original flavors, the vintages are never mixed - in this way it differs from other traditional cognacs which aim to standardize the appellation.

Leopold Gourmel cognacs are matured in un-toasted extra fine-grain French oak casks. The wood comes from the oldest French oak trees, which prevents oxidation, adds very delicate wood notes and enables the vintage to reveal its full potential. The cognacs are then bottled without artificial ingredients or the use of chillfiltering.

Leopold Gourmel "Age des Fleurs" 15 Carats Cognac has been matured for fifteen years, allowing it to develop an inviting nose of mature fruit, vanilla and nutmeg, with elegant top notes of rose and jasmine. The palate entry is warm and rich, leading to a mid-palate of baked apple, nougat and honey, with hints of honeysuckle and oak following through to the finish.
