Being so inexpensive, I was tentative about "La Charlotte". How ever, after you open the cork the wonderful pungent aroma will fill the entire room, you will realize that this is no wimpy absinthe. The nose is big on Lemon Balm and Mint, with Fennel notes and toasted Anise. I mix it 1:5 with filtered water and 2 sugar cubes (be sure to filter your water for the ice to) The louche happened fairly quickly, turning the pail yellow liqueur to a milky brown/green. After the water is added the nose hints of Black Pepper and Spearmint. The first several sips show big Spearmint, Lemon Balm, and Fennel, after about 15 minutes the Spearmint begins to fade and Lemon Balm wrapped Anise with a hint of Black Pepper take the lead. The mouth feel is very nice with just a hint of creaminess. So all in all Devoille "La Charlotte" is worth every penny, and dollar for dollar the best bang for your buck you can get! There are better absinthes on this planet but, not for this price.

I was very leary of purchasing this bottle, but was "thirsty" and on a budget.....I was plesently suprised...not bad, not great...very comparible to Lucid. A good introduction bottle if you haven't tried Absinthe before, or great if you are low on funds after filling gas tank.

Though this has received good ratings from others, La Charlotte was not to my liking. The wine base leaves a distinct and unpleasant flavor. The Louche was the only thing I found attractive about this absinthe

I have to say that is is one of the best absinthes I have ever had. It's smooth, with a bit of a fruity smell once you open the bottle (due to the grape base). Once you add water and sugar, it's a whole new world of flavor and smell. The anisette taste is not as harsh as with other absinthes. Definately worth having a bottle of this around.

This absinthe is right up there with the best. I have also experimented with taste-testing all the 'best'... mostly pricey French, Switzerland brands... the mediocre (Lucid) and much touted five star PA mades. Folks, this absinthe is terrific! It has the genuine spicy snap & crackle to the front of the tongue, the anise flavor is in the fore, but not too steep, and the herbs are nicely apparent. The louche is cotteny white, and the aroma is genuine from the pop of the cork. Fifty-five percent alcohol content is, for me, more favorable. I never use sugar with my absenthe, and use less water, too-boot. Considering the amazing price, and my personal taste-test of many of the others, this will be my absinthe of choice for year to come.
