In 1970, San Francisco firefighter Cecil De Loach and his wife Christine purchased twenty-four acres of old-vine Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County. For several years they supplied grapes to other noted California winemakers, before making the decision to produce their own wine under the De Loach label in 1975. De Loach Vineyards would grow to produce more than 250,000 cases over the years and helped put the Russian River Valley appellation on the map as one of California's premier growing regions. Cecil retired from the San Francisco Fire Department in 1982 after a sixteen year career and chose the name "Hook & Ladder" for his latest winery project to honor his years on the fire truck.

Produced in limited quantities, Hook & Ladder "Third Alarm" Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve offers an intense nose of vanilla, mocha and baking spice, supported by lush notes of blackberry and dark cherry. Rich berry notes on the palate are accented by an elegant herbal edge, which meets balanced acidity, structured tannins and a delicate spice note on the finish.
