Gush Etzion is located in the Judean region, south of Jerusalem. It is one of the highest altitudes in Israel. This region has been recognized for thousands of years for wine growing. The local climate, differences in day and night temperatures, chalky soil, sloping vineyards, and altitude of over 900 meters above sea level, create ideal conditions for wine growing. Currently, Gush Etzion owns about 120 acres of vineyard where they grow a rage of varietals e.g. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Mourvedre, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Rousanne, and Viognier.
Crafted from hand-picked grapes from Judean Hills, Gush Etzion "Spring River" Syrah-Mourvedre is a blend of 65% Syrah and 35% Mourvedre. It is aged for 12 months in French oak barrels, lightly filtered and then aged in the bottle for another 2 years. The result is a medium bodied wine with soft tannins and balanced acidity, offering notes of ripe berry fruit, baking spice and chocolate with a layer of cascading flavors that expand in the textured earthy finish.
