91 Points - Malt Advocate
Four time winner of Whisky Magazine's Innovator of the Year, the Compass Box Whisky Company is renowned for its high quality, award winning spirits. Great King Street was created to revive interest in Blended Scotch Whisky - a style which is usually overlooked due to the large amount of poorly made, inexpensive brands on the market. However, Compass Box has artfully combined flavorful single malt whiskies with delicate single grain whiskies, resulting in an elegant, approachable spirit that can be enjoyed neat as well as in cocktails. It has been named after a long, wide street in the New Town of Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland. Great King Street has been home to the registered office of the Compass Box Whisky Company since it was established in 2000.
Great King Street is a complex, full bodied Scotch with a wide array of intriguing aromas and flavors. This artful blend consists of aromatic, fruit-forward Lowland Grain Whisky, a malty and fruit-driven Northern Highland Single Malt, a second Northern Highland Single Malt which is aromatic and herbaceous, and a Speyside Single Malt which lends body and texture. The flavor is influenced even further by the three different casks in which the spirit is aged in - first fill American Oak lends notes of vanilla and spice, new French Oak imparts notes of marshmallow, roasted coffee and toasted almond, and first fill Sherry Butts lend hints of dried fruit. Great King Street Artists Blend is unchillfiltered and bottled at its natural color in order to preserve the character and quality of the whisky.
