Born in Germany in 1818, George Dickel was a successful Nashville merchant with a love for fine whisky. In 1870 he established the Dickel Distillery in Cascade Hollow and the business thrived until 1910, when Prohibition was established in Tennessee and forced all distillers within the state to cease operations. In 1958, Master Distiller Ralph Dupps rebuilt the distillery and began production once again. To ensure the whisky's authenticity, Dupps obtained Dickel's original manuscripts detailing the unique recipe and process used in the creation of his distinctive spirit. Today, Master Distiller John Lunn runs the distillery, carrying on the tradition of fine Tennessee Whisky.
Matured for five years, George Dickel Rye Whisky boasts aromas of cinnamon, rye, vanilla and oak, accented by hints of cherry and baked apple. The palate opens with soft notes of caramel, toffee and baking spice which are quickly joined by bold flavors of oak and spicy rye. This intensity carries through to the finish, where it merges with lingering notes of caramel and orchard fruit.
"On the smoother, sweeter side of the rye spectrum, this whiskey offers a restrained aroma that mixes vanilla and oak and luxe, bold flavors that resound with -cigar wrapper, leather, toffee and cocoa. The long finish is perked up by a fleeting cut-apple freshness, marked by allspice and clove. Cocktail friendly. Made in Indiana, bottled in Connecticut." - Wine Enthusiast
