Description

Gold, Best in Class - International Wine and Spirits Competition (London) 2006
"Absinthe of the Year" - Swiss Liquor Board 2006
Silver Medal - San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2008

Duplais Swiss Absinthe Verte was first introduced to the European Market in July 2005. Since then, it has gone on to become a standard within the high-quality distilled absinthe category. It has the distinction of being the first verte absinthe to be released in Switzerland since the 1910 ban was lifted.

Duplais Swiss Absinthe Verte’s recipe is based directly on the highest quality absinthe Suisse protocols from the important 19th century French distiller’s manual: Traité des Liqueurs et de la Distillation des Alcools by P. Duplais, which is where Absinthe Duplais takes its name. It is created with wormwood and other botanicals, which are locally sourced and grown on a Swiss plantation reserved exclusively for the finest pharmaceutical-grade herbs. The distillate is reduced to final strength using spring water from the Alps.

The chlorophyll from aromatic plants, which are infused in the distillate after distillation, naturally colors Duplais Swiss Absinthe Verte. As a naturally colored product, Duplais will experience some color changes as the chlorophyll oxidizes over time and will eventually achieve the legendary "dead leaf" color, a telling characteristic of the finest vintage absinthes.

In the glass, Duplais has a unique golden green hue. The slow-forming louche results in a thick, almost opaque golden green with amber highlights. Following the louche, the complex herbal aromatics unfurl slowly, revealing themselves as lifted wormwood, fennel, and spice. The palate is textured, rich, and creamy with substantial fennel and wormwood flavors. This is a powerful yet controlled spirit that achieves impeccable balance.

wonderful all-around verte December 3, 2009
Reviewer: Stanley P. Kachowski
Initially somewhat harsh/edgy but it mellows after it's been opened/closed a few times to a nice well rounded and balanced verte ... nice mouth-numbing effect(the best absinthes you will find do this...)and a pleasant buzz ...Similar to Mansinthe(made by same people/distillery)-but-much much more complex and elegant in the finish, especially ... Fans of Mansinthe should definetly graduate/move on to this, it's in the same vein/taste profile ...Wish we could get the 'balance' version in the USA .. highly recommended !

Wow!! October 14, 2009
Reviewer: Tim from Palm Coast, FL United States
Very nice absinthe, full of flavor.  The herbs used are of top quality, especially the wormwood used, great flavor and a nice sweet finish from the supporting cast of herbs.

Duplais September 11, 2009
Reviewer: Chris Clady from Portland, OR United States
Other reviews are right, this one is wonderful.Any drawbacks here, are minor.
This is a delightful old world verte! I like it with a little sugar.
Price wise there are other brands that also are outstanding, & cost somewhat less. Mansinthe,LMV,& St G, for example.
I would'nt buy this every time, but would certainly reccomend it to anyone into absinthe.

Fine Absinthe April 2, 2009
Reviewer: An admirer from New Mexico
Duplais Verte is one of the best absinthe's available anywhere in the world. To say it is anything less, is absurd.

Duplias March 27, 2009
Reviewer: Sandy Anderson from Margate, FL United States
Bad absinthe, try La Fee or Pernod WTF!?!?!? I just recieved my bottle of Duplias yesterday and think it's absolutely wonderful. The herbs are strong and balanced. The Louche was beautiful. Aroma inviting. The flavor left me wanting more. I think the person two below me either didnt louche this absinthe or really doesnt know what there talking about. La Fee and Pernod both color there "vertes" with yellow #5 and not green herbs. They seem to cater to those interested only in the "effects of absinthe". I suggest you try La Clandestine and Vieux Pontarlier before thinking those other less than worthy absinthes are worth purchasing again.
