Van Brunt Stillhouse is named after Cornelius Van Brunt, one of the founding fathers of Brooklyn. During the 1800s, the Brooklyn waterfront hosted gin, rum and whiskey distilleries - Van Brunt Stillhouse honors the pioneering spirit of Brooklyn with handcrafted, artisanal spirits created on the Red Hook waterfront. Sailors at sea were once afforded a ration of Grog every day. Usually the Grog was more water than rum, but when they had performed vailiantly or were in for heavy weather or a bruising fight, the captain would dole out a stronger ration. When the ration was pure rum, the sailors would say it was "Due North".

New York City's first native small batch rum since Prohibition, Van Brunt Stillhouse "Due North" Rum is distilled from organic, unprocessed sugar grown by small family farmers and dried in the sun in the foothills of the Himalayas. Pronounced notes of caramel, vanilla and sweet spice on the nose and palate merge with hints of dried fruit on the lingering finish.
