Domaine D'Esperance, a formerly abandoned estate on a hillside in the Sables Fauves of Gascony, was purchased and renovated in 1990 by Jean-Louis and Claire de Montesquiou. The estate's fruit-forward armagnac is produced with Baco 22A and Folle Blanche grown in the sandy clay soil of Grand-Bas-Armagnac at the border of the Landes and the Gers at Mauvezin d'Armagnac. After the grapes undergo natural fermentation, the wine is distilled in a traditional Armagnac still and then matured in gascon oak barrels.

Matured for nineteen years in gascon oak barrels, Domaine D'Esperance Bas Armagnac Vintage 1993 offers a compelling nose of raisin, plum, apricot and sweet spice. Complex, well-integrated notes of dried fruit, coffee, hazelnut, vanilla and oak emerge on the palate and linger through the long, mellow finish.
