The origins of Diplomatico Rum date back to the late eighteenth century to a man named Don Juancho Nieto Melendez, an enthusiastic traveler and connoisseur of fine beverages. He traveled the world studying the sources and production methods used to create artisanal spirits, then used this knowledge to develop his own premium rum.
The year 2002 is one of Venezuela's best sugarcane harvests in recent years. High daily temperature and humidity combined with lower than average rainfall created ideal growing conditions in which the sugarcane flourished. Deep golden amber in color, Diplomatico Single Vintage 2002 Sherry Cask Finished Venezuelan Rum offers enticing aromas of vanilla, buttery fudge and candied fruit combined with notes of tobacco leaf, spice and sugarcane. The full-bodied palate is rich and silky with complex notes of caramel, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon, honey and dried apricot. Hints of tobacco, clove and cinnamon lingers through the long finish.
