In 1934, Pietro De Martino Pascualone arrived to Chile from his native Italy and founded Viña De Martino in Isla de Maipo, located 31 miles from Santiago between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. Today, the 3rd and 4th generations of the De Martino family carry forth and build upon the family legacy. Their mission of “Reinventing Chile” represents their active role as a leader at the forefront of wine making innovation in Chile, with a commitment to resurrecting ancient vineyards, embracing indigenous grape varieties, and promoting Chile as a producer of world class wines.
The vineyard of De Martino "Limavida" is located within the coastal mountain range of the Maule Valley and was planted in 1945. Sitting atop pure granite soils, these non-grafted vines are dry farmed and head trained. De Martino "Limavida" Single Vineyard Old Vines Field Blend is created from 85% Malbec 7.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 7.5% Carmenere, offering intense aromas of violets and notes of aniseed combine with red fruits followed by hints of licorice and smoky undertones. Nuances of citrus and orange peel develops overtime. The rich acidity is balanced by fine tannins on the long finish. Enjoy with grilled steaks, lamp chops, hearty pasta dishes, or stews.
"Displays strong aromas of flowers (the telltale violets that the best Malbec really masters) and notes of aniseed, red fruit, licorice, smoked hints and the tension and acidity from the old vines with fine-grained tannins. With time in the glass, it develops a beautiful orange peel note that makes it appealing and fresh. Delicious! Drink now – 2019." - Wine Advocate
"A red with blueberry and lemon peel character plus hints of shaved chocolate. Full body and fine tannin tension complemented by bright acidity. Drink now or hold." - James Suckling
