The D'Angelo Winery is located in the town of Rionero, high on the slopes of Mount Vulture, an extinct volcano. The winery's success can be contributed to Dontato D'Angelo, who started planting Aglianico in 1973, after he and his brother inherited the estate from their father. He played a key role in garnering international recognition for the grape, which is now regarded as one of Italy's most important varietals.

Although Aglianico originated in Greece, it has been cultivated in Basilicata for centuries. The grape thrives on the unique terroir of the land, especially the soil deposits from ancient lava flows. Aged in Slavonian oak barrels for 20 months, this medium bodied red displays powerful notes of cherry, wild herbs and flowers. Bright acidity and firm tannins culminate in a smooth, slightly spicy finish.
