90 Points - International Wine Cellar
Owned and operated by Ramon Losada and his family, the vineyards of D. Ventura are located on the steep slopes of Ribeira Sacra, an ancient wine production region in the heart of Galicia. With the help of experienced winemaker Gerardo Mendez, the Losadas adjusted their farming techniques to incorporate a more natural approach. Aside from utilizing organic farming methods, only indigenous yeast is used to start fermentation and the wines are not filtered or cold stabilized.
Composed entirely of Mencia, D. Ventura "Vina Do Burato" Ribeira Sacra is a fresh, aromatic red which has been vinified in stainless steel rather than barrels. A vibrant nose of cherry, raspberry and rose petal is followed by concentrated flavors of ripe red fruit, dried herbs and earthy mineral, accented by a touch of black pepper. Silky tannins and bold acidity complement the long, spicy finish.
