The oldest working distillery in the Loire Valley, La Distillerie Combier, has released France's first cherry-flavored liqueur. The original recipe was developed in 1632 by the Reverend Mother Gautron of the Benedictine Abbey of Samur, and became very popular with the court of King Louis XIV. Keeping with the tradition, Roi Rene Rouge is still produced as it was nearly 400 years ago.

Combier Rouge is composed of a blend of Guignes and Morello cherries for their aroma and spiciness, and black cherries for their deep, ruby color. The result is a light, sweet, fruity liqueur with hints of pepper and licorice. Made entirely of natural ingredients, Rouge contains no added sugar and is sweetened entire from the fruits themselves.
