The Marumoto Brewery was founded in 1867 at the base of the Chikurin-ji Mountains, in Okayama-ken, one of Japan's most prized agricultural regions. It is currently run by the sixth generation of the Marumoto family, who create their quality sake from estate grown rice and pure spring water. They attained USDA organic certification in 2009 and the Chikurin Karoyaka is the first sake made from Japanese-grown, USDA-certified organic sake rice.

More restrained in its aromatics than most junmai ginjos, Chikurin Karoyaka offers a light, dry palate with beautifully balanced acidity and delicate notes of cherry, melon and fresh herbs.
