In Gascony language "Peyros" means a stony place, which is very representative of the exceptional terroir of Chateau Peyros. Resulting from the “moraines pyrénéennes”, the clay and limestone soil is very dense with rolled pebbles set down by glaciers. The property is a 17th century estate and mansion and the cellar is naturally isolated, thermally and hydrometrically. 22 hectares of vines for the most Southern oriented vineyard of Madiran appellation and the average age of the vines are 40 to 50 years. Since 1980s the fermentation takes place in stainless steel tank and in the 1999, the winery was equipped with temperature control and micro-oxygenation systems that could soften the wines made with Tannat. Therefore, it became possible to obtain fresher wines in the first years, without losing their strong aptitude for aging.
Crafted from an unusual blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc, Chateau Peyros Madiran Vieilles Vignes is dark ruby in color, offering bold aromas of blackberry, red cherry, nutmeg and sweet tobacco leaf on the nose. The full-bodied palate is well coated with tannins and balanced acidity with notes of fresh black fruit, spice, dark chocolate and gravel. Pair it with roasted red meat, saucy meat, spicy Tartar, duck breast. Decant before serving.
"This blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc has given a wine that is both dense and smoothly ripe. Rich black fruits dominate, supported by a dry, solid structure from the Tannat. It is a wine to age, so drink from 2019." - Wine Enthusiast
