91 Points - Wine Advocate
Crafted from 100% Mencia from 45-55 year old vines and aged for seven months in a mix of French, Russian and American oak barrels, Bodegas Peique "Ramon Valle" Bierzo Mencia is ruby red in color with elegant aromas of red and black berry fruits well integrated with floral notes. The palate offers mouth watering acidity and fine tannins with notes of oak and mineral lingers through the long, expressive finish.
"The 2012 Ramón Valle is pure Mencía aged for seven months in a combination of French, American and Russian oak. The nose is clean, with well-integrated oak, intermixed with flowers and wild berry aromas. The medium-bodied palate is juicy and fresh, with very fine tannins. 2012 was a shorter vintage, with 30,000 bottles were produced.
Peique is a family winery created in 1999 after 90 years of grape growing. I feel fresher wines from 2010-2012, with better integration of the oak." - Wine Advocate
