The Avignonesi's primary goal is to make terroir-driven wines which express the distinct character of their vineyards. Whenever possible, they use indigenous yeasts and pursue subtle wine management to help each wine find its natural path and preserve the characteristics of each grape lot. For the classic wines, they ferment and age each lot separately and only after the aging process, they decide on which blend will do justice to a particular grape and vintage.
Avignonesi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is an artful blend of Sangiovese grapes from 10 to 39 years old vines from eight different estates located in the Montepulciano DOCG production area. The wine is aged for 12 months in French barriques and 6 months in large Slovenian oak casks, for a total of 18 months, followed by a minimum of 6 months in the bottle. The nose offers intense aromas of red berry fruit, sweet spice and Mediterranean herbs. Ripe red currant, cherry, leather and tobacco appear on the silky palate, where lively acidity and polished tannins lend shape and structure with a savoury and long lingering finish. Perfect with red meat, game or a selection of cheeses.
"Pure Sangiovese from a vintage characterized by a cool and dry spring and a hot summer, resulting in a subtle, elegant Vino Nobile. This is the first vintage which has fruit from all of our 8 vineyard locations in Montepulciano." - Ashleigh Seymour, winemaker
"There's loads of Sangiovese character here, from the earthy, tobacco-scented beginning to the cherry, leather and earth flavors, all underlined by stiff, chalky tannins. Rustic yet soulful. Best from 2018 through 2024. 16,666 cases made." - Wine Spectator
