93 Points - Wine Advocate
100% of Altos las Hormigas "Appellation Vista Flores" Malbec stems from the alluvial terrace of Vista Flores, lying at 1,150 meters above sea level. 5% of the soil is clay and about 80% of the soil volume consists of limestone covered pebbles and gravels, granting to the wine elegance and minerality. The grapes go through a double selection process and are released by gravity into small stainless steel tanks for pre-fermentation maceration at 5°C for 7 days. Alcoholic fermentation is performed with indigenous yeasts at 24°C for 15 days and post-fermentation maceration is performed for 4 days. Finally the wine is matured in 3,500 ltr untoasted Foudres for 18 months, and 12 months in the bottle. Prior to the bottling the wine went through a coarse filtration to ensure no interference with the quality of the wine.
Dark ruby in color, Altos las Hormigas "Appellation Vista Flores" Malbec offers a complex, aromatic nose with notes of red current, black cherry, pomegranate, licorice, and mint with a hint of leather. The well rounded, full-bodied palate offers aromas of red and blue fruits, spice and herbs, leading to a long finish accented by touch of dark chocolate.
"The spicier of the appellation Malbecs might be the 2013 Malbec Appellation Vista Flores, also a little riper with juicy cherries and hints of cassis intermixed with the flowery aromas and the elegant minerality found in all of the range. The palate is silky and juicy, very balanced with refined tannins. Juicy, delicious and subtly mineral." - Wine Advocate
